About the Program

Madison College’s Meeting and Event Management Associate Degree is the only one like it in the nation. The program gives students real knowledge, builds real skills, and creates a real competitive advantage in the meeting and event planning job market.

Real Knowledge
This program was developed by people who actually do the work – meeting planners. They identified the core knowledge needed to plan meetings, events, tradeshows, and conventions. We built our program on these competencies, here are a few:

  • Determine feasibility of meeting or event
  •  Determine important criteria in selecting an event site
  •  Identify common strategies in coordinating special events
  •  Critique meeting formats and environments and their impacts on the meeting
  •  Analyze facility contracts
  •  Develop sustainability plan
  •  Examine risk and crisis management strategies
  •  Determine critical elements in coordinating exhibits
  •  Our degree gives you the most comprehensive education, offering the most meeting & event management credits in the United States.

Real Expertise
All of our instructors have their Certified Meeting Professional designation, one of the highest designations recognized in the meetings industry.  They have been in the trenches doing the work of meeting planning for years. They bring you real life experience and real life knowledge, up close and in person. We keep our classrooms small and intimate, so you get the most out of your experience and instructor.

They are also active, award-winning leaders in the meetings industry, in fact our Program Director Janet Sperstad, CMP is a past recipient of the Madison College Teacher of the Year as well as Meeting Professionals International 2007 International Planner of the Year.

Real Application
Here’s what students are saying about the coursework and instructors.
Thanks for everything you have taught me, the knowledge and information I have gained has been invaluable to me.

Classes prepare you for real-life planning; the tools we used in class I use every day.

Fast, fun, and practical coursework.

Great teachers, they are experts in their field and make the classes fun!

I learned so much practical application from the classes that I use in my everyday work as an event coordinator. I never thought I would be as educated in this field as I am now. Janet’s teaching style is one of my favorite things about her. She brings real life examples and experiences into the classroom and takes the extra step to make sure that we all understand, that is what makes an ordinary teacher, extraordinary

The Meeting and Event Management program at Madison College is the best career move I have made. The classes are great, fun and full of real life information. It is so fantastic to learn from instructors who are leaders in this industry.

The meeting and event management program is on the cutting edge of today's growing Meetings industry.   The opportunity to learn from seasoned meeting professionals in an environment with high expectations is unparallel. The tools received in the program are tangible and useful in everyday job tasks. Classes are intended to be challenging in order to build the necessary skills in order to compete in the meetings industry. Students are encouraged to think creatively, problem solve, and treat their class experience with the same care that a meeting professional cares for their event.

Graduating with this degree was the best decision I made for my education. I use the knowledge I obtained every day and continue to build on it. Janet is an outstanding instructor and continues to be a valuable resource for me.
