Biotechnology Technician Programs

We are the Biotechnology Department at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.

The Biotechnology Department provides four educational programs of study:

  • Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Associate Degree Program

Biotechnology Laboratory Technician
A lab-based course of study for beginning college students who want to prepare for entry level jobs in biotechnology. Can be completed in two years of full-time study.

  • Post-Baccalaureate "Traditional" Certificate Program

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
A series of courses for individuals with a BS degree in a biological science who want practical laboratory skills to improve their employability in the biotechnology industry. Can be taken full or part-time.

  • Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program - Intensive One Semester

Post-Baccalaureate Intensive Certificate
A full-time, one semester intensive program for individuals with a BS degree in a biological science who want practical, advanced laboratory skills and an intro to business to improve their employability in the biotechnology industry.

  • Bioinformatics Certificate Program

Bioinformatics Certificate
An evening course of study provided in collaboration with the Computer Department for individuals with college experience in the life sciences who want employment in the emerging field of bioinformatics. Bioinformatics is the application of information technology to the management and analysis of biological data. This is a good field for people who are interested both in computers and in biology.


Bio-Link

The Madison College Biotechnology Department directs the Clearinghouse of Curriculum and Instructional Materials for Bio-Link. Bio-Link is a national consortium funded by the National Science Foundation in 1998 to enhance and expand biotechnology education programs by providing cutting edge professional development for instructors, improving curriculum, and creating a system that promotes the sharing of information. Madison College is responsible for the web-based Bio-Link Clearinghouse of Instructional Materials for Technician Education.
