Commitment to Student Retention

Madison College is committed to providing accessible high quality learning experiences that serve the community. The Retention Plan is a continuation of that commitment. It reflects the on-going work of our faculty and staff to ensure the success of our students.

The Retention Plan is a major component of the college’s Three-year Strategic Plan. The Three-year Strategic Plan reflects the focus and philosophy of the college.

The top 3 priorities of the 2011 – 2014 Strategic Plan are:

1. Meet the access, learning and workforce needs of our students and community

2. Retain students to completion

3. Improve facilities, systems and processes while meeting fiscal challenges

Additionally, the Retention Plan blends the efforts of instructional and support services to support the college’s Academic Plan (2007) and enrollment management objectives.

Activities related to the development of the Retention Plan include: review of literature and best practices related to student retention; a self-study on the First-Year Experience at the college; retention consultant study to identify strengths and gaps in current retention policies, practices and activities; review of current college retention data; survey of faculty and staff; as well as meeting and open forums with faculty, staff, deans and other administrative staff.
