Public Safety Questions

Q: When are Officers available?

A: Officers are available 24/7 365 days a year by calling 608-245-2222.  Officers respond to all Madison area Campuses.  

Q: Where can I smoke at Madison College?

A: Madison College is a Tobacco Free campus this policy includes the use of any smoking devices, including e-cigarettes and vapor cigarettes.  Any City sidewalk is the only place you can smoke near Madison College property.

Q: Where is lost and found?

A: Lost and found is located at Public Safety Truax Campus room B1240.  Most items are held for 30 days.

Q: If I am concerned to walk along to my vehicle what should I do?

A: Public Safety offers escourts to staff and students, call Public Safety at (608)245-2222 to have an Officer respond or come to Truax Campus room B1240.

Q: What do I do if I lock my keys in my car?

A: Public Safety has tools to attempt to gain access to locked vehicles.  Before calling a tow company be sure to call Public Safety and we can attempt to gain access for no charge.

Q: What does Public Safety do?

A: On average Public Safety Officers respond to 310 calls for service per month.  these call range from medical emergencies, disruptive or violent subjects, drug or alcohol violations, burglaries, thefts, alarms, service calls to students or staff and suspicious activity.

Parking Questions

Q: How long are student parking permits valid for?

A: Student parking permits are valid for the entire academic school year and expire at the end of August each year.

Q: I have a student parking permit so where am I allowed to park?

A: All vehicles must display a valid student permit at all times and park in designated areas only. Designated parking areas for students are in marked stalls only. Parking along curbs or on the grass is NOT allowed anywhere on Madison College campuses. The Madison College Truax campus offers additional parking in our “overflow” lot across Anderson Street, adjacent to the Lussier Athletic Park, and off of Straubel Street. Vehicles found in violation of the current college parking policy are subject to a parking citation and/or towing at the owner’s expense without warning.

 Q: What is “metered parking” and can I park there?

A: Madison College offers two metered parking areas at our Anderson Street entrances and our Wright Street entrance. These areas are for SHORT-TERM parking and are limited to ONE HOUR intervals. The metered parking areas are heavily monitored and enforced. Violations in the metered parking areas are subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Q: What is “visitor parking” and can I park there?

A: Madison College offers two parking areas near the Health Education Building that are reserved for visitors to our campus. These parking areas are for Madison College visitors and staff ONLY. Students that park in these areas without proper authorization are subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Q: What is carpool parking and what are the requirements to park there?

A: Carpool parking is an area in the main Truax student parking lot reserved for students possessing a valid carpool parking permit. Carpool parking permits must be requested at the Public Safety office, room B1240, and are valid for the calendar year. Students must have a MINIMUM of 3 occupants in the vehicle and a valid Carpool permit visible to park in the carpool area. Violators are subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Q: How much do parking permits cost and where do I get one?

A: One parking permit is included in your tuition as part of the mandatory student fees for degree credit students. For non-credit students parking permits are available free of charge. Parking permits can be picked up at the Madison College Public Safety office, Room B1240 at the main Truax building M-F between the hours of 7 AM and 10 PM. Please bring your student OneCard or other government issued photo I.D. to the Public Safety office during these hours to obtain your student parking permit.
