This course provides individuals seeking a Barbering, Nail Technician, Aesthetician or Cosmetology Instructor certification the hours, competencies and observation opportunities to meet Wisconsin state requirements qualifying them to take their instructor exam. Those interested in this course need to have an active Barber/Cosmetology license and have been working full-time for one year or hold a manager’s license. The course is set up in two separate components to meet the 150 hour state requirement.
Students explore the skills required to teach barbering, cosmetology, nails or aesthetics to new students coming in the field. The course covers communication, adult learning styles, developing learning plans, using audio-visual equipment, developing presentation styles, and evaluation techniques. Emphasis is placed on the development and presentation of state board learning plans with successful examination results. Observation time outside the classroom is required.
Upon successful completion of this course, student instructors must enroll and successfully complete Supervised Teaching to meet the 150 hour state requirement for certification to take their state board exam.
