Bill Bessette joined Madison College in September 2007.

Prior to coming to the college, Bill was a longtime anchor/reporter in television and radio news. His broadcast career stretched throughout Wisconsin, with jobs in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Appleton, La Crosse, Wisconsin Rapids and Marinette.

Bill now works closely with the media to set up interviews with Madison College experts on topics ranging from animation to veterinary care. He also produces a weekly video report called Madison College Minute, which takes a closer look at the diverse programs and unique events at the college.

When not at work, Bill likes to hit the golf course. So if you hear “fore!” — it could be Bill.

Robin Gee joined Madison College in 2000 as an editor and project planner in the Marketing Department and joined the Communications and Public Relations department in 2013. She is on the lookout for stories from our regional campuses, as well as those of special interest to trade, regional and education-focused publications.

With a background in journalism and book publishing, clear communication is the core of her career focus. Before coming to Madison College, she worked in the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Communications Department and the Department of Public Instruction.

She is the author of a book on the history of the college as well as books on writing topics (for Writer’s Digest Books). Her “spare time” is divided between writing projects and rabble rousing.

With 25 years’ progressive experience in advertising, strategic communications and reputation management, Cary Heyer serves as manager of Communications and Public Relations at Madison College.

Cary’s creative efforts have garnered over 50 Addy (first-place) awards from the Great River Advertising Federation, including Best of Print and Best of Show. He has earned national recognition from the American Advertising Federation, the Direct Marketing Association, the American Society of Technical Communicators, the John Caples International Awards, Target Marketing Magazine and the Higher Education Digital Marketing Awards.

A member of the Public Relations Society of America and PRSA’s Counselors to Higher Education Academy, he holds the distinction “APR” (Accredited in Public Relations), a designation held by only two percent of all public relations practitioners. He is also a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and a longtime member of the International Association of Business Communicators.

The former Golden Gloves Boxer is a multi-dimensional wordsmith who contends that proper grammar, spelling and the ability to deliver a message with clarity and conviction are more powerful weapons than a walloping blow to the solar plexus or a sweeping right hook to the chin.

Cary received his associates degree in liberal studies at Austin (Minn.) Community College, earned his bachelor’s in public relations and journalism at Winona State University, and in 2013 was awarded a Master of Science in Servant Leadership from Viterbo University.

Cary’s hometown is Austin, Minn., where he developed an enduring affinity for SPAM, the Minnesota Vikings and fishing for bullheads.

Our interns

Each year we work with journalism and public relations interns. Our interns are responsible for the writing, editing and production of Madison College Matters, our internal newsletter, as well as other duties.
