FAQ’s: Office 365 Student Migrations

What was done?

Madison College migrated our current student email to a “cloud” offering: Office365 (hosted by Microsoft). If you are a returning student, the look and feel of your email should not change significantly from the previous OWA student email system.

What are the benefits for students?

  • More Storage: student storage will be increased to 25GB of storage across the platform. Previously storage was limited to 1GB.
  • Greater Reliability: Office365 by Microsoft delivers a robust webmail service that provides exceptional reliability.
  • Increased Accessibility: Office365 can be accessed from virtually any mobile device.
  • Frequent Updates: The Office365 platform provides updates frequently to enhance the user experience.

When did this occur?

Email migrations were begun throughout the summer and fall 2013.  Students were notified twice during this migration period: once when your email was scheduled to start the migration process and once when your email had been completely migrated.

What is the impact to students?

Existing email accounts were moved. Students keep their same email address and had their saved emails moved to the new platform. Any new students automatically have new accounts created when they activate their accounts.

How and Where do I login?

Accessing your student email:

  • You can use to access your 365 Madison College email account directly.
  • If you continue to use the links for the previous OWA student email, you will be automatically redirected to your new cloud 365 student email account.
  • Students will log in to Office 365 student webmail by entering their full email address - in the user name field.
  • After your student account is migrated, any mobile device will use as the mail server address. Mobile setup information.
  • Students who created rules or customizations in the previous OWA2010 email system, should double-check that these are functioning as expected after the migration. Recreate the rules or customizations if needed.
