Open Registration

If you would like to take a class or two, but are not admitted to a program at Madison College, you will register for classes during our Open Registration dates. Refer to the Registration Calendar for upcoming terms.

Complete the following steps to ensure a quick and seamless class registration process:

STEP 1: Create and/or Activate Account

The first step to taking classes at Madison College is to create an account. Note: creating an account does not equate to applying to a program or certificate. If you are interested in seeking a degree, see the Admissions Checklist web page for program and certificate application details.

STEP 2: Schedule and Take the COMPASS Placement Test

Review the specific course/class requirements to determine if there are any testing requirements or other prerequisites.

STEP 3: Submit Official Transcripts and Test Scores

Submit official Transcripts from all other colleges and universities you have attended to meet course pre-requisites three weeks prior to open registration day. See the Transfer Credit web page for details on Transfer Credit Evaluation. Courses in progress at another institution will not suffice.

STEP 4: Register for Classes

Be sure you have access to the correct technology to participate in the class. Many classes use Blackboard and other online technology. See Blackboard Help for further information.

Validate classes in your myMadisonCollege Student Center in advance to ensure you meet the prerequisites. If you receive an error message during the validation process and you meet the class requirements, follow the class override process mentioned in Step 5 to resolve issues before open registration begins.

Register for classes during open registration online from your Student Center, by phone or in person with assistance from the Enrollment Center.

STEP 5: Meet with an Advisor (if needed)

If you are attending another college/university, confirm with your home institution the transferability of Madison College coursework. For UW System schools, refer to the Transfer Information System (TIS).

If you need additional assistance, call (608) 246-6076, option 3.

Please note: If your official transcripts are on file and you are certain you meet the pre-requisite, but transfer credits have not yet been evaluated, submit an online Override Request Form at least 72 hours in advance of registration. Official transcripts must be on file at Madison College for a class override to be granted. All class overrides are handled through the Online Request Form and processed in the order in which they are received.

STEP 6: Pay for Classes

If you are enrolling in degree, credit-bearing classes, you will not receive a paper invoice; billing is done electronically through your myMadisonCollege Student Center. See the Payment Due Dates and Payment Options web pages for information on paying tuition and fees.

After Registration and Prior to First Class Day:

Determine if a parking pass is required. If so, pick one up from Public Safety. There is no grace period at the beginning of the term.

Purchase textbooks. Books can be purchased through the Madison College Bookstore.

Pick-up your OneCard (i.e. student ID). Go to the Student Life Office to obtain your ID.

After Classes are Complete:

Once the class is complete and grades have posted in your Student Center, run an unofficial transcript from your Student Center to verify accuracy.

If you are planning to transfer credit back to another institution, request an official Madison College transcript from your Student Center.
