Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Deputy Secretary Jonathan Barry recently visited Watertown-based Western Industries to meet the company's first group of workers who completed training through the Wisconsin Fast Forward grant.
The grant supports on-the-job training opportunities for workers at Wisconsin companies. It's part of the same Blueprint for Prosperity initiative as the $5 million recently awarded to Madison College for workforce training to meet the need for high-skilled workers in our area.
Western Industries was the first company to be awarded the grant. The company partnered with Madison College's Watertown Campus to provide training in blueprint reading and welding skills for 11 employees.
Watertown Training Liaison Bob Abbott, Eastern Region Campus Manager Jeff Dodge and manufacturing program instructors Tom Schroeder and Don Wegner were on hand to talk about the program, tour the plant and congratulate their students.
The Daily Jefferson County Union covered the event and shared details on the grant and the initiative behind it.
