Interested in making your own movies? Are you a natural storyteller? Join Madison College for a special Movie Maker Bootcamp this summer! In one week, you'll learn about storyboarding, video and audio equipment, shooting, editing, and adding special effects. This hands-on, team approach to making a movie will reflect what they do in Hollywood and the film industry today. All equipment and software is provided during the week of class. This 1-week workshop is designed specifically to introduce youth to a variety of career pathways in Biotechnology, with a capstone hands-on experience with stem cell technologies and applications in regenerative medicine. In a state-of-the-art Biotechnology Laboratory suite, students will undertake hands-on experiences that pave the way for STEM careers in bioenergy production, agricultural biosciences, biomedical & molecular biology research and development. Students will learn the basic biological principles that define Biotechnology, and explore concepts in manufacturing biofuels, manipulation of plant and animal genetics, the fundamentals of DNA science and tissue engineering. This course teaches students how to produce short documentaries for the web. Students will learn how to operate video cameras, microphones and tripods before shooting their own video stories. They will learn how to interview others and use narration for their video stories. Students will then learn how to use Mac computers and video editing software for the editing process of these stories. No knowledge of camera equipment or video editing software is needed prior to enrollment. This class is limited to students in grades 7-10. Video equipment will be provided.
