Effective July 1, 2010, Madison Area Technical College is 100% tobacco-free as part of the College’s efforts to create a safer and healthier environment for students, faculty and staff, and visitors of the College.
In the past, tobacco use has only been allowed in designated areas on each campus, however the new policy prohibits the use of tobacco products anywhere on district-owned or district-leased property, including buildings, grounds, parking lots, and vehicles.
This policy applies to all students, employees, and visitors of the College.
As part of this health initiative, the College would like to make students and employees aware of resources that can assist with the challenges associated with quitting tobacco usage.
The primary reason for this policy is to enhance the goal of providing a safe and healthy environment for students, employees, and visitors of the College. The college joins six other Wisconsin technical colleges in the tobacco-free initiative.

Yes, the policy applies to all property owned or leased by Madison College, including vehicles.
How will the new policy be enforced?
Public Safety Services can issue citations in the amount of $10.00 to those in violation of the policy. In addition, all students and employees have a responsibility to enforce the tobacco-free policy by asking others to respectfully refrain from tobacco use on district grounds.
As a smoker, do I have to quit smoking or chewing?
No, the policy stipulates that you cannot use tobacco products on College property. Those who wish to quit are encouraged to review the available resources to help you quit.

You may contact the Student Health Education Center at 608-246-6027 to discuss options for quitting or you can call the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line at 800-QUIT-NOW (800-784-8669). All full-time and part-time Madison College employees are eligible to enroll in the Quit for Life Program. Quit for Life is an online and phone based program offered free of charge.
