Madison College hosts state collegiate cyber defense competition

In a world where data breaches are becoming a common occurrence, the need for cyber security experts is on the rise.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Madison College is hosting the State Collegiate Cyber Defense competition on the third floor of the Truax Health Education Building (1705 Hoffman St.)

Eight-person teams from five Wisconsin colleges and universities will build and defend their mock production business infrastructure from professional “hackers” who will attempt to breach their security. Wisconsin Chief Information Officer David Cagigal is doing a brief presentation in the morning. Participating in the competition are:

-Madison College

-Milwaukee School of Engineering

-Southwest Wisconsin Technical College (Fennimore)

-UW-Stout (Menomonie)

-Waukesha County Technical College

Madison College was recently recognized as a Cybersecurity Academic Center of Excellence by the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Only four colleges in Wisconsin have received the prestigious designation.
