Pet safety during Halloween

It's that time of the year again, when little ghosts and goblins come to your door demanding candy and your dog barks so much you think you're caught in a Lassie rerun.

So how do you keep your pets calm and safe this Halloween season? Madison College Vet Tech Coordinator Melissa Hayden says remember these tips:

-Keep pets in a separate room away from the busy and noisy front door
-Don't feed your dogs chocolate or anything with the sugar substitute xylitol - it can make them very sick
-For some pets, wearing a costume may cause undue stress
-Always make sure your pet has proper identification in case they run away and get lost
