Petition Requirements

Cosmetology

Students admitted into a pre-petition status for the Cosmetology program are selected for entry into the core program courses through the Petition Process using the petition requirements outlined below.

Students interested in completing the Cosmetology program at Madison College must start by applying for admission. Qualified applicants will be admitted in a pre-petition status and should review the Start of Semester Checklist to guide you through your next steps in preparing for your first day of classes at MATC.

After being admitted in a pre-petition status, students are then selected for entry into core program courses through the Petition ProcessCoursework must be completed or in-progress prior to beginning the petition process.

Admission and petition requirements are subject to change; please review the requirements prior to submitting your application or petition.

Spring 2018:

  • Making the Cut will be available in December 2017

Summer 2018:

  • Making the Cut will be available in March 2018

  • An additional Making the Cut may be available in May 2018, if spaces remain open

Fall 2018

  • Making the Cut will be available in May 2018

Making the Cut

All students must complete Making the Cut, an orientation course designed to maximize your understanding of the Cosmetology program.  During this orientation you will receive an introduction to the industry and an orientation to the program competencies. You will also be assessed on preparedness, skill and abilities to ensure an educational match and increase the chance of successful program completion.

Making the Cut is offered each December, March, and May. Students admitted into a pre-petition status will receive registration instructions. Space is limited and is available on a first come first serve basis. Because Making the Cut is a petition requirement with limited space students are encouraged to attend the first available session of Making the Cut. Students who have successfully completed Making the Cut and register for first semester courses will be awarded a seat based on course availability.
