Here is how you can access help from us during the fall semester:

The School of Academic Advancement (SAA) is available for remote student Webex or phone advising appointments. To schedule a virtual or phone appointment with a Transition Specialist/Academic Advisor, please call (608) 258-2440 extension 8 or email Please indicate if you prefer Webex (Online) or phone and provide your contact information.  We are working with the college to provide limited face to face hours during the fall semester - check back for future updates.

Madison College offers developmental education and college preparation courses to help students be successful in their college coursework.  Based upon students’ placement test scores, they may be placed into one or more areas of developmental education. These courses are offered free of tuition for all Wisconsin residents. 

See below for a list of the different developmental education programs:

  1. Accelerated Math Program (AMP)

    Would you like to take both Elementary Algebra and Basic Algebra in the same semester and accelerate your math pathway?

    The Accelerated Math Program (AMP) at Madison College allows you to accelerate through developmental courses Basic Algebra and Elementary Algebra. This 5 credit class provides motivated students the opportunity to get take both classes in the same semester. This allows students to get into Intermediate Algebra, the next sequence of math class, the following semester. Your AMP instructor and Advisor provide you with support in order to achieve your goals. Students who are successful dedicate at least two hours outside of class studying/doing homework each night.

    The program is designed to support student’s math skills in a single semester. While it adds additional in-class hours, that extra time gives students the opportunity to get additional help.

    Accelerated Math Program (AMP) students take these courses in the same semester:

    •  Elementary Algebra
    •  Basic Algebra

    Qualified Accelerated Math Program students have the following scores:


    • Next Generation Accuplacer: Arithmetic 237-249
    • Classic Accuplacer: Arithmetic 46-75 
    • ACT: Math 15-16

    Or have taken:

    • Math Concepts with a C or higher

  2. Accelerated Language Program (ALP)

    Do you struggle at times reading through difficult material, doing scholarly research and writing long academic essays?

    Would you like more individual support? The Accelerated Learning Program in English at Madison College will give you extra support in meeting English requirements that transfer to most major colleges and universities.

    The program is designed to help students identify and practice strategies that will improve their college-level reading, research and writing skills. While it adds additional in-class hours, that extra time gives students the opportunity to get extra help from their instructor and peers to complete their English 1 assignments successfully.

    ALP-E students take these courses in the same semester:

    • English 1
    • Academic Writing 5/6

    Qualified ALP-E students:

    • ACCUPLACER: ACCUPLACER WritePlacer 3-4, Sentence Skills 53-69 & Reading 77-120 WritePlacer 3-4
    • Sentence Skills 53-69 & Reading 77-120, or
    • ACT English score 13-13 and Reading 17-36

  3. Applied Technology Sector

    The Applied Technology sector prepares you with the concrete skills to work within any trade.  Get hands-on experience with engines & hydraulics, agriculture, welding, construction & refinishing, complex systems, and electrical equipment.  Learn all of this while being OSHA-compliant and following all proper safety procedures.  Develop your acute visual problem solving skills and how to work with customers.

  8. Launch into Madison College

    All students scoring in college prep courses will be enrolled in a short orientation course. This course will familiarize you with all aspects of starting college, as well as helping you to identify a sector of study. Log in to the Blackboard site to complete the Launch activities:

    You must complete the Launch orientation before the first day of your sector class. Launch into Madison College assists you with:

    • Applying to a program
    • Registering for classes
    • Academic information
    • Career exploration
    • Financial aid
    • College resources
