Can I receive credit for my internship?

Yes, if your program includes an internship course option or requirement. If you enroll in an internship class, you will receive credit during the semester (or summer) in which you are doing your internship. There will be assignments related to your internship experience as part of your internship course.

An internship course has been developed for Liberal Arts Transfer students who wish to further explore their chosen fields for credit. LAT students can initiate the internship for credit process by submitting the Liberal Arts STEM Internship webform.

Credit cannot be granted retroactively for internships already completed.

I am currently working. Could my current job be considered an internship for which I could earn credit?

Possibly.  For a current job to be considered an internship, it must align well with your academic, professional, and personal development goals. The experience also must align with internship course requirements and learning competencies.

In addition, structuring a current job into an internship may impact your roles and responsibilities in that job and should be discussed with your supervisor. This option should also be discussed with your program director and an internship advisor in Career & Employment Services.  You may schedule an appointment with Career & Employment Services via Navigate or by calling 608.243.4598.

Will my internship turn into a full-time job upon graduation?

Possibly.  An internship is a great way to demonstrate your skills and abilities.  For many employers, internships are a primary method for identifying future talent.  According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), nearly half of all interns are converted into full-time employees!
