John Deere Sponsorship Requirements

The Agricultural Equipment Technology Program is a partnership between Madison Area Technical College, John Deere and Company, participating John Deere dealerships and participating students.

  1. You must apply online to Madison Area Technical College for the Agriculture Equipment Technology program.
  2. Request your high school send your official transcript or equivalent to: Admissions Office, Madison Area Technical College, 1701 Wright Street, Madison, WI 53704.
  3. Your next step is to meet with Bob Gray, lead program instructor at MATC. Arrange an appointment with Bob by email or call (608) 246-6834 or (920) 229-0041.
  4. Bob will give you a tour and help you schedule a pre-accpetance COMPASS test. The test is comprised of five parts (writing, reading, math skills, elementary algebra and mechacnical reasoning).
  5. Your admissions application is not complete until you submit your Dealer Approval of Student Form Sponsorship Agreement to Bob Gray after the dealer has offered you a sponsorship.
  6. Apply for a dealer sponsorship. It is the responsibility of the applicant to secure this sponsor. You must fill out a job application through your John Deere dealerships of choice. Find a dealer near you by using the dealer locator or contact Bob Gray to help you identify dealers in your area.

Applicants must complete an interview with an authorized dealer representative to secure sponsorship. Applicants should take the Dealer Approval of Student Form Sponsorship Agreement to the interview. If it is determined that sponsorship will be provided, the authorized representative will return the completed form to the School of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology office at Madison Area Technical College. If sponsorship is not granted by the student's first dealer choice, the applicant should seek an interview with another dealership.

We also recommend that the student work for the dealership during the summer prior to starting school in the fall.

Once a sponsorship has been offered, the student should send Dealer Approval of Student From Sponsorship Agreement Form to Bob Gray.

Once you start working at your dealer, obtain your John Deere I.D. number. (Note: This is not required for admission, butis required bythe  first day of class).

Comparable tool sets and boxes will be available at the tool show. Estimated cost of the tools with box, based on 2015-2016 data, is between $2,500 and $3,000.
