Program Excellence Award presented to dual enrollment program

MADISON, Wis. — Achieving the Dream’s Gateway to College program at Madison Area Technical College has received a Program Excellence Award for exceeding all four benchmarks used to assess the performance of  programs nationwide.

Through Gateway to College, students who have dropped out of high school or who are significantly off track, complete their high school diplomas in college-based programs while simultaneously earning credits toward a postsecondary credential.

"Madison College supports these young adults," said Juanita Comeau, director, College and Career Transitions.  "Not only to complete high school, gain college credits and assist them in their future college and career plans."

In spring 2019, 27 students graduated from the Gateway to College program.

The spring 2019 graduation included 27 young adults who completed high school and had an average of 22 college credits.  Of those, 19 will start their college programs of choice, this fall.

In 2018, the Madison College Gateway to College program was recognized with a Graduation Achievement Award. This marks their first Program Excellence Award, and represents one of only 11 such awards given to Gateway to College programs nationally.

The program was honored by Achieving the Dream President Dr. Karen A. Stout and Executive Vice President Emily Froimson at the Gateway to College Directors Convening in New Haven, Conn., at the end of July.
