Your studies and assignments are important – but when it comes to your mental health, there is no better time to reach out than right now.

Asking for help does not mean you are inadequate; it simply means you need help with something specific for a time.

It does not cost anything to talk to the Counseling staff, and you can talk to them in any way you feel comfortable - phone, virtual chat or in-person.

  • Scheduling an Appointment

You can schedule time with our counselors in the following ways:

Before your first meeting, you will be asked to complete the Informed Consent Intake Form in the email confirming your appointment. This will help you understand how counseling works and the brief survey will help your counselor understand your situation better.

If you have questions only about course planning and selection, please make an appointment with an academic advisor, not a counselor.

    Confidentiality

Your counselor cannot tell anyone what you share with them unless you give written permission by completing the Counseling Services Authorization for Release of Information and Records.

    Download the Authorization Form (PDF)

The counselor may need to disclose information to someone else if there is a risk to you or others or if there is a requirement from a court order.

  • Crisis Counseling

If you need immediate assistance for an urgent concern, we are ready to listen.

    During Business Hours

To talk with a counselor about an urgent concern during business hours, call 608.246.6060.

To minimize delays, please avoid emailing to schedule an appointment.

    After Business Hours

    Journey Crisis Line at 608.280.2600

    Madison College Public Safety 608.245.2222

Emergency Dispatch 911 (9-911 on campus)

    RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center

The Rape Crisis Center (RCC) supports students in understanding and healing from the complexities of trauma and sexual violence. A sexual assault advocate holds part-time hours on the Truax and Goodman South campuses to provide confidential services to survivors seeking support.  To schedule an appointment with an advocate, call the RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center’s 24/7 helpline at 608.251.7273.

Who is eligible for services?

Ongoing personal counseling services are available for students enrolled in college-level degree credit classes. Non-credit students are eligible for Crisis Intervention Services and brief solution-focused support for up to three sessions to assist in linking to community resources. Students must be physically present in Wisconsin when accessing counseling services virtually or telephonically.
