Academic Honor Society

Phi Theta Kappa is the world’s largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year college students.

Any student is eligible to join after completing 12 credits and achieving at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Madison College's chapter of Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities to develop leadership and service skills, exchange ideas and ideals in an intellectual climate, develop lively friendships between scholars, and stimulate interest in continued academic excellence.

  1. About Phi Theta Kappa

    The Madison College chapter was chartered in 1995 as the Beta Beta Psi chapter. We provide opportunities to develop leadership and service skills, exchange ideas and ideals in an intellectual climate, develop lively friendships between scholars, and stimulate interest in continued academic excellence.

    • Membership invitations are sent at the beginning of each fall and spring semester to qualifying students.
    • One-time lifetime membership fee of $75 gets you access to ALL the member benefits and opportunities.  
    • New members are celebrated once a semester at an induction ceremony. Friends and family are welcome to help celebrate your success!

    College Project - The purpose of the College Project is to establish a collaborative relationship between the chapter and the college administration. Through this collaboration, an annual project will be defined to meet the strategic goals and prioritized outcomes that meet the college’s mission. Contact our VP of Leadership to get involved in our chapter’s project.

    Honors Case Study Challenge - Phi Theta Kappa challenges you to read the newspaper daily and create an Honors Case Study based upon your reading of newspapers over time that are related to our current Honors Study Topic. You could win $500.

    Nota Bene - Phi Theta Kappa's honors anthology recognizes outstanding writing of Phi Theta Kappa members and demonstrates to the literary public the academic excellence and commitment to scholarship found at colleges. A scholarship of $1,000, is given to the author of the Nota Bene manuscript considered to be the most outstanding of all entries.

    President’s Challenge Enhanced Membership Program - Earn rewards for your involvement including PTK graduation regalia to help you stand out in the crowd. Based on your involvement as an official Phi Theta Kappa member with Madison College Beta Beta Psi chapter, you will earn a higher achievement level and more rewards.
