Aviation Professional Aeronautics celebrates first graduates
Madison College students are reaching new altitudes as the first graduates of the Aviation Professional Aeronautics program.
Five students graduated from the program on July 20.
In 2023, the college partnered with Wisconsin Aviation to offer a two-year accelerated program designed for both traditional college students and returning adults.
The program includes ground courses and flight training, culminating in private pilot certification, instrument flight rating, commercial pilot licensure, and flight instructor certification.

Flight safety researcher Dr. Chris Johnson played a key role in developing the program, which aims to prepare students to become professional pilots in a safe, friendly, and flexible environment, utilizing top-of-the-line flight training equipment.
“We proudly graduated our first class of highly trained professionals this past weekend,” Johnson said. "Aviation careers are in high demand and contribute to economic growth. It was exciting to see the gratitude and enthusiasm expressed by the graduates and their exceptionally supportive families."
Students participate in ground school at Madison College's Truax. Flight training is conducted by Wisconsin Aviation's Flight School at the Dane County Regional Airport, located just north of the campus.
