Enrollment continues its upward trend at Madison College, rising four percent in spring 2026 compared to last spring. Growth was strongest in health care and skilled trades, with several programs increasing by 30 percent or more.
Data shows that 12,038 students were enrolled in credit-bearing courses in spring 2026, a four percent increase from spring 2025. Occupational programs and university transfer continue to account for the largest share of enrollment.
Across the full academic year (2025–2026), Madison College served more than 28,700 unduplicated students, reflecting participation across all terms and course offerings.
“Our students understand the value of a Madison College education as they pursue their goal of earning a bachelor’s degree or gaining employment in-demand occupations such as nursing, plumbing, surgical technology, and more.” said Dr. Tim Casper, executive vice president of student affairs.
All seven of the Madison College campuses saw an increase in unduplicated headcounts with the Watertown, Reedsburg and Fort Atkinson campuses posting double-digit increases.
Enrollment growth
Black students saw the largest enrollment increase of 12 percent, making up 10 percent of the student body. Hispanic student enrollment increased nearly five percent, and they now comprise 16 percent of the student body.
Enrollment increased at both ends of the age range. Students under 17 and those over 62 each rose by 10 percent. Continuing student enrollment increased three percent, an indicator that more students are persisting in their education toward a goal of a certificate or diploma.
“The increase in continuing students is a great sign that more students are on track to complete their academic credentials,” Casper said. “When more students are completing their programs and becoming a part of our local workforce, they thrive, their families do better and the regional economy is strengthened.”
