Madison College will host a bilingual job fair at its Goodman South Campus on Oct. 23 from 5-8 p.m. The event has grown from its inception a little over a year ago and is expected to draw more than 300 job seekers and 30 employers.

Employers from various sectors including hospitality, construction, nonprofit, government, finance and healthcare will be at the event.

With the growth of the Latino community in Dane County, employers are seeking bilingual employees to help serve this growing segment of customers, clients and patients. The event aims to introduce job seekers to potential employers and other resources, says organizer Nicole Sandoval, Latinx Community Liaison at Madison College.

“Because many attendees may be newcomers to the states, they're looking for different community resources. So, we've started incorporating some of our community partners such as Centro Hispano, The Latino Academy for Workforce Development and organizations working on domestic violence awareness,” Sandoval says. “The City of Madison Civil Rights Department will also participate so people understand their employee rights. The resources continue to grow.”

Madison College Access Navigators will assist attendees with academic support, such as English as a Second Language classes, and getting credits to become certified in the profession of they studied and practiced in their country of origin.
