Teegawende "Josephine" Segrado awarded prestigious Jack Kent Cook Foundation scholarship

Madison College student Teegawende "Josephine" Segrado has received the prestigious 2025 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholar. 

Josephine is in the University Transfer—Electrical Engineering program and will transfer this semester. She plans to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). 

Josephine developed an honors project called "Seizure Detection and Mitigation", motivated by a family member's illness. Throughout her research, she discovered that various products can detect and help mitigate seizures, preventing potentially fatal injuries and saving lives.

Through her actions, Josephine has demonstrated exceptional skills as the Outreach and Communications Coordinator for the Volunteer Center Board of Directors. In this role, she managed communication and marketing for various on- and off-campus volunteer and civic engagement events. Following this role, she took on the position of Alternative Breaks Coordinator, dedicating her energy to planning impactful experiences for Madison College students.

Josephine has been a Madison College Peer Health Educator for the past two years. In this capacity, she organizes health and wellness events and helps manage the Cupboard Student Food Pantry's office.

Among more than 1,600 applicants nationwide, Josephine is one of the 90 newest Cooke Transfer Scholars. Cooke Scholars benefit from minimal student debt and comprehensive advising and program support. The scholarship, which serves as last-dollar funding after all other institutional aid, can provide up to $55,000 per year for up to three years to complete a bachelor's degree at an accredited U.S. institution.

As part of the Cooke community, scholars gain access to a supportive network and are eligible to apply for internships and graduate school funding from the Foundation.
