Year of the Big Dog

On Fourth of July, Madison College celebrated the birth of a true American legend, Gary "Big Dog" Breneman.

This year is even more special with the kickoff of a yearlong celebration of Big Dog's 50th year with Madison College Athletics, starting with Big Dog's Annual Alumni Golf & Bags Classic on Aug. 12.

Gary began his journey at Madison College in 1975 after graduating from Pardeeville High School. He started as a student manager for the school's basketball and baseball teams and later worked in the school's cafeteria before moving to the bookstore.

Throughout the years, he earned the nickname "Big Dog" and was honored with various awards for his loyalty, support, dedication, and service.

In 1991, Big Dog was inducted into the Madison College Athletics Hall of Fame and was presented the Doug Redsten Memorial Service Award at the 2010 athletics banquet for his loyalty, support, dedication and service.
