Madison College’s Spring Powwow on Saturday, April 25, brings together singers, dancers, students and community members from tribal nations across Wisconsin and beyond.

Guests are invited to experience this tradition rooted in connection, storytelling and celebration from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Redsten Gym at the Madison College Truax campus. Grand entries at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. will mark when dancers enter the arena in a display of unity and cultural pride.

A celebration of culture and community

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Woodland Song & Dance,” honors the traditions of the region and the enduring significance of powwow culture.
Co-host drums Medicine Rock and Bad River will be joined by invited groups including Little Priest, Little Soldier, Red Nation Boyz and Twin Tails. Dancers of all ages will be competing in special categories, such as men’s and women’s dances, an appliqué special, singer championship and a bells-only competition.

The powwow offers opportunities to connect more deeply with Native culture. More than 20 vendors will feature handmade goods and cultural items.
Dinner will be catered by Wild Bearies, a nonprofit founded by Madison College alum Elena Terry that focuses on Native foods, offering attendees a chance to experience Indigenous cuisine rooted in history and sustainability.

Led by students, grounded in belonging

At the heart of the powwow is Madison College’s Native American Student Association (NASA), whose leadership helps bring the event to life each year. In collaboration with the Intercultural Exchange and the Division of Organizational Impact and Culture, the powwow reflects the college’s broader commitment to creating spaces where cultures are honored, shared and celebrated.

The Madison College Spring Powwow is free and open to the public.
