Latina artists shine in Las Curanderas art exhibit, Sept. 15-Oct. 15

Madison College celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Las Curanderas: From Ashes, We Rise, an exhibit featuring the work of Latina artists from across Wisconsin.

The community is invited to experience powerful stories and perspectives rooted in identity, resistance, healing and belonging.

The theme is inspired by the phrase, “Que los queme el fuego, que los queme el fuego, y vengan nuevas flores” — “Let the fire burn them, let the fire burn them, and may new flowers emerge” — from Natalia Lafourcade’s song “María la Curandera.”

“The exhibition is more than a collection of artwork,” said Madison College Community Engagement Specialist Nicole Sandoval, “It creates a space for Latina artists to share their experiences, stories and perspectives while inviting community members to witness and engage with their work.”

Madison College and Latinos Organizing for Understanding and Development (LOUD) are hosting this gallery event. The exhibit is curated by Jessica M. Gutiérrez and Issis Macias.
