New grant covers tuition for nursing assistant training at Madison College Watertown

Madison College has received a new grant that will cover tuition and classroom supplies for eligible students pursuing Nursing Assistant certification at its Watertown campus.

Students are encouraged to enroll now to participate in the Bridge Bootcamp, Aug. 17-Sept. 3 and continues to run alongside the core until Nov. 10, which reviews key concepts before classes begin and helps students build confidence for success in the Nursing Assistant Program, which runs from Sept. 9 to Nov. 22.

Students are encouraged to apply by July 17 to complete a background check, health screening, and vaccinations required for the program.

The Integrated Education and Training (IET) grant, through the Wisconsin Technical College System, covers tuition and classroom supplies for training at the Madison College Watertown campus. The certification can also serve as a first step toward other health care careers, including nursing.

In-demand careers

Wisconsin health care employers continue to face strong demand for nursing assistants, making the program an affordable pathway into one of the state's fastest-growing career fields. Nursing assistants play an important role in providing care in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other health care settings.

"This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in health care, especially those who may benefit from a little extra support as they return to school or start something new," said Chelsey Bauer, Madison College Watertown campus manager. "The grant helps remove some of the financial barriers, while the bridge support helps students feel more prepared for class."

Funding is available for a limited number of students. Interested students should begin the enrollment process now to allow time for required background checks, health screenings and vaccinations.
