TeKema Balentine - Miss Black USA

TeKema Balentine leads a busy life.

Not only is the Madison College student studying to be a nurse, she also has two part-time jobs. On top of that, she was recently crowned Miss Black USA.

"The motto of the pageant is to empower black women to be who they are, to be the best version of themselves and to move forward and reach back for the next one," Balentine told PBS TV. "I think it means a lot to young girls in Wisconsin to see a brown person in a crown, but also who has determinations and goals."

Balentine says she looks forward to using her voice to help other children of color.
