At Madison College, Mola Badjie is building more than a degree — he’s creating connections and helping others feel they belong.

Please share your journey to Madison College.
I grew up in rural Gambia, where perseverance and community shaped who I am. That journey inspired me to pursue education and eventually use health care to help others regain strength and independence.

Why did you choose the University Transfer Program?
The University Transfer-Science, Math, Technology Program allows me to build a strong academic foundation while completing the prerequisites needed to transfer to a university and continue my path toward becoming a physical therapist.

What moment at Madison College perfectly captures your experience here?
Using my public safety experience as a student to support others on campus has been especially meaningful. Whether helping students feel safe, heard or connected to resources, I’ve seen firsthand how much this college values its community.

You were recently named Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) State Ambassador from Madison College for the 2026-2027 academic year. What motivates you to be a leader?
I stay involved because leadership is about service. Whether through Phi Theta Kappa or the African Student Association, I want to help students feel supported, connected and confident in their potential.

How has being an international student shaped the way you create connections on campus?
Being far from home encouraged me to intentionally build connections. I value creating welcoming spaces where students from different cultures feel supported, understood and part of a strong community.

What would you say to a student who isn’t sure they belong in college or doesn’t see themselves as a leader?
You belong in college even if you doubt yourself. Leadership doesn’t start with a title, it begins with courage, curiosity and the willingness to take the first step.

As a WTCS ambassador, if you had one minute to convince someone to consider a technical college, what would you tell them?
Technical colleges provide accessible, quality education that connects learning with real opportunities. They open doors for diverse students to build meaningful careers and positively impact their communities.

Imagine yourself 10 years from now as a physical therapist. What kind of impact do you hope you’re making?
Ten years from now, I hope to help people recover from strokes and injuries, restore their independence and remind them that progress, no matter how small it is, is always meaningful.

How would your friends describe you?
Determined, supportive and dependable.

What’s your go-to study snack?
Peanuts and tea keep me focused during long study sessions.

What’s your favorite way to recharge after a busy day of balancing school and work?
I enjoy going for a walk, calling family back home or taking quiet time to reflect and reset for the next day.

What else would you like us to know about your Madison College experience?
Madison College isn’t just educating me; it has given me a community, a voice and the confidence to pursue my dream of becoming a physical therapist.
