Program Overview
The mission of the Data Analytics Certificate is that every student at Madison College, no matter their program or starting point, has access to learn basic data analytics skills.
Completion will prepare students to work in a variety of settings, including academic research environments and both the private and public sectors, with traits employers want, including good communication skills, ethics, logic, and critical decision-making.

Students earning the Data Analytics Certificate can attend full or part time.

Required Courses20-809-294Introduction to Data Analytics
This course is an introduction to data analytics, designed for beginners. Topics include data collection and cleaning, handling missing data, exploratory data analysis, basic statistical methods, and techniques for visualization of data. Useful data science tools will be introduced, including Excel and SQL.3 credits20-809-291Technology and Society
This sociology course introduces students to the field of Science and Technology Studies. Examines its history, the role of science and technology in our everyday lives, and applications of science and technology. Topics include AI, surveillance, medicine, the role of the market in science and technology, the role of data, and the ethical consequences of technology.3 credits20-809-230Statistics for the Social Sciences
Students will develop statistical knowledge and skills through problem solving in the social sciences. Course components focus on measuring variables, measures of central tendencies, the utility of descriptive statistics, and introduction to inferential statistics and its predictive nature, the differences between samples and populations, and the increased capacity to read and display statistical information. Work is completed by hand and through statistical software.4 credits20-804-217Introduction to Programming in Python
This course is an introduction to computer programming in Python, with application to data analysis. It introduces computational thinking and computer programming using the Python language, along with the treatment, processing and visual communication of data. The analysis and presentation of real datasets are emphasized. No previous programming experience needed.3 credits -

International students who wish to apply for, maintain, or transfer their F-1 student visa status to Madison College are required to complete the International Admission Process.
There are no admission requirements for this certificate. Simply submit your application by the deadline for each term.

Certificate programs are not eligible for financial aid.
