Check out our ensembles and learn how you can join. Current students can choose to earn credit or participate as a noncredit (and no-cost) activity.

Madison College Big Band

This ensemble specializes in the type of jazz and swing music popularized during the Big Band Era of the 1930s and 1940s.

The Big Band ensemble performs on campus and within the greater Madison area throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 6:15 – 7:30 pm.

Madison College Jazz Band

This traditional jazz ensemble explores many music periods and styles, including swing, funk, Latin and modern jazz. Community members and college students make up this vibrant group of musicians.

The Jazz Band meets on Mondays from 7:45 – 9 pm. In addition to performing on campus, members play live shows throughout the greater Madison area.

Madison Community Orchestra

Comprised of about 80 members of varying ages and abilities, MCO supports the growth of amateur musicians through regular rehearsals and performances. The orchestra performs four concerts each year, including a popular holiday concert in the State Capitol rotunda.

MCO is open to strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion musicians. Rehearsals are fun and musically formative and are held on Tuesdays from 7 – 9 pm.

Madison Municipal Band

This traditional concert band features musicians from Madison College and its surrounding communities, spanning all ages and abilities. The ensemble performs quality wind arrangements in a wide of range of styles and aims to contribute positively to the local arts community.

The Madison Municipal Band fosters musical expression, appreciation and growth. This ensemble rehearses on Wednesdays from 7 – 9 pm.

Madison College Choral Collective

Open to anyone who finds joy in group singing, this vocal ensemble consists of Madison College students and local community members. The mission of the collective is to bring uplifting choral performances to audiences both on campus and throughout the surrounding area.

All are welcome to sing. Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7 – 9 pm.

World Drumming Ensemble

This high-energy ensemble is composed of Madison College students. Members explore a variety of world drumming techniques and styles, including Brazilian and Afro-Cuban rhythms, and perform both on and off stage—including at Madison College commencement ceremonies.

This ensemble is open to students only—no prior drumming experience required. New members must register for the World Drumming Ensemble 1 class, which meets Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:30 am - 12:20 pm.

Mitby Theater

Most performances happen at this contemporary, state-of-the-art venue at the Truax campus. Originally designed as a home for the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the theater's acoustics are outstanding.
