*Students taking this class will need to purchase a student semester membership to the Madison College Fitness Center, unless you are also taking degree credit classes. Nursing Home Administrator Program

This class is the first of two courses (4 components total) required to be able to sit for the Nursing Home Administrator Exam in the state of Wisconsin. This first section is 24 hours of effort and covers Care & Services, as well as the LTC Environment and Quality components. Workload is broken down into 4 weeks, in which two chapters are covered per week. In the first 2 weeks you will learn about the Care team and how those services are provided to seniors. In the second 2 weeks you will learn about the importance of measuring and improving quality in LTC, as well as the factors that make up the LTC Environment.

Mental Health First Aid Training

This course is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD), and eating disorders.

This course prepares the dental hygienist to use diode lasers safely and effectively to treat periodontal disease in dental patients with Laser Bacterial Reduction and Laser Assisted Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy. Course will cover laser history, basic laser safety, physics, clinical applications and procedures in the dental office. Students will apply dental laser soft tissue procedures on a porcine jaw in a lab setting, and learn safety guidelines for performing the role of Laser Safety Officer in a dental office setting.

This course allows you to complete the educational training required by the Wisconsin Board of Dentistry in order to administer nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation analgesia. Whether beginning or refining your skills in nitrous oxide administration, this practical continuing dental education course will give you the capacity to reduce patient anxiety and fears in your dental office. Eligible members of the dental team include dentists, dental therapists and dental hygienists. Course includes 5 hours of self-paced online work and reading followed by 7 hours in clinic, with supervised clinical experience using fail-safe anesthesia equipment capable of positive pressure respiration. Students are require to read Handbook of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen Sedation, 4th edition by Clark and Brunick, prior to entering clinic, as part of the 12-hour course load. Course participants need to show evidence of current licensure and CPR certification, and will be required to give and receive nitrous oxide.

Trigger point therapy has been used for decades and is recognised as a powerful tool in healing diverse symptoms, including muscle weakness, loss of grip strength, menstrual pain, nerve and blood vessel entrapment, irritable bowel syndrome, vocal dysfunctions, dizziness, sexual dysfunction, vision problems, nasal congestion, to name but a few. This course explains how trigger points work as symptom generators that can refer pain to other parts of the body, creating a cascade of dysfunction.
