Capital Verses Features Grand Slam Poetry Champion at Madison College’s Goodman South Campus

We’re celebrating our love for the spoken word to uplift and inspire with Andre Bradford a.k.a. S.C. Says and community poets.

Capital Verses kicks off the festival on Thursday, April 11 at Madison College Goodman South Campus, 2429 Perry St. from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Talented Madison-based community poets will join in on an open mic session. This experience is free and open to the public.

S.C. Says is an Austin-based slam poet who has been performing slam poetry since 2013. He's toured and featured at venues and universities across the country, and his work has been featured in the Huffington Post, Write About Now, The Edge radio, The Culture Trip, and Blavity. He is a two time Austin Poetry Slam Champion, the 2022 Texas Grand Slam Champion, and is the author of the poetry collection Golden Brown Skin. 

His poetry covers a gamut of topics ranging from being mixed race, to social justice, to mental health awareness, to never settling in relationships.

National slam poet champion S.C. Says will be at Madison College Goodman South Campus on April 11.

This event includes an open mic session and performances by community poets: Charles Edward Payne, Laura McMillan, Morgan Steward, Christian Kind, Asiah Kind, Sarah Branch, Chakari Daezhare, Keena Stayflyy Atkinson, and Arsenio Sorrell.

Other festival highlights include the Climate Change Story Slam with Mad City Story Slam at Madison Public Central Library on Saturday, April 20 and Poetry and the Natural World with United States Poet Laureate Ada Limon Reading at the Overture Center in Madison on Thursday, May 23.
