National Disability Employment Awareness Month

Many of us have heard of the Black Panthers, but did you know the activist group fought for disability rights?

BLACK PANTHERS
Dr. Sami Schalk
will discuss the Black Panther's involvement in the historic Section 504 sit-in (26 days) at the San Francisco Federal Building in 1977, during a National Disability Employment Awareness Month presentation from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, in room 205 at Madison College's Goodman South Campus. Section 504 barred discriminations against people with disabilities in all buildings and facilities receiving federal funds, including colleges and universities. Register here for this free discussion.

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL
Meanwhile, the UW-Whitewater award-winning wheelchair basketball team will showcase its talent and inspiration at Madison College's Redsten Gym on Thursday, Oct. 20, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Register here for this free event.
