Celebrating innovation

Madison College officially opened its new Construction & Remodeling Facility at Truax North Campus on Nov. 19. The $10.3 million, 30,000-square-foot facility is built for hands-on learning and innovation, elevating training opportunities for future builders.

Madison College Provost Beth Giles joined students, faculty, partners and community members to celebrate the milestone at Wednesday’s ribbon cutting and open house.

“This new facility at Truax campus represents so much more than bricks and mortar—it represents opportunity, innovation, and our unwavering commitment to student success,” Giles said. “Every square foot of this space reflects our belief that students learn best when they can roll up their sleeves and practice their craft in an environment that mirrors the worksite they’ll soon lead.”

With enrollment in the Construction & Remodeling Program steadily increasing, the new facility provides the capacity to expand to evening cohorts starting in fall 2026.

Spaces for elevated learning

The remodeled space marks an exciting new chapter for Madison College’s Construction & Remodeling program, which relocated from the Commercial Avenue campus to Truax.

The renovated space includes two large workshops for training in roof framing, siding, insulation, and green building demonstrations. Students and faculty also benefit from a modern computer lab, classrooms, a dedicated power tool and safety lab, and student collaboration areas. High ceilings and large overhead doors allow students to construct sheds, garages, and tiny homes entirely indoors.

Meeting demand for skilled professionals

With enrollment in the Construction & Remodeling Program steadily increasing, the new facility provides the capacity to expand course offerings and meet the region’s growing demand for skilled trades professionals. Program enrollment has risen 26% from its pandemic low, and now serves 55-75 students annually.

“The Construction and Remodeling program is a vital part of how Madison College meets the needs of our regional workforce,” Giles said. “This facility helps us bridge the gap between eager students and employers looking for skilled, job-ready professionals.”

A new era

In addition to improved learning spaces, the move to Truax North brings Construction & Remodeling students closer to campus resources, including advising, financial aid, student activities, and shuttle service, strengthening their connection to the Madison College community.

Designed by Strang Architects and constructed by Joe Daniels Construction, the facility opened its doors to students for the fall 2025 semester.

The building is designed to meet or exceed LEED Silver certification, reflecting the college’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. Features include a 125-kW rooftop solar array, lighting control systems, water-saving fixtures, advanced heat recovery systems, a rainwater bioretention basin, as well as eco-friendly furniture and EV charging stations.
