Nearly every industry uses some sort of digital interface – from healthcare and banking to education and retail – so the possibilities for employment are endless.
First, What Is Web Design?
Digital experience shape how people interact with technology in their daily lives. They design for web platforms, mobile aps, wearable tech, connected home systems and more. Designers meet with clients and stakeholders to understand what a website or ap needs to do and then work with a team to compile design elements and develop technical infrastructure to ultimately create a useful, good-looking product. A digital platform that works well also takes into consideration the psychology of its users, so web designers use research of the habits of both people in general and the targeted audience to produce an intuitive interactive experience. UX, UI and IxD are all parts of digital experience design.
And So, What Is UX, UI and IxD?
- User Experience (UX) focuses on how people interact with products and services. It’s about understanding user needs, solving problems and making sure the overall experience is smooth, intuitive and satisfying. UX designers use research, testing and empathy to create designs that work well for real people.
- User Interface (UI) deals with the visual and interactive elements of a product—things like buttons, menus, icons and layout. UI designers make sure everything looks appealing and functions clearly, aligning with both brand identity and usability best practices.
- Interaction Design (IxD) is the art of designing how users interact with technology, including motion, feedback and behavior. It’s about crafting meaningful, responsive interactions that guide users and enhance engagement.

A degree covering UX, UI, and IxD will prepare you to design digital experiences that are not only beautiful but also functional, inclusive and enjoyable to use. It's a great path for creative problem-solvers who care about people and technology.
