Farmers count on a lot of machinery to run their farms … and they count on technicians to keep that equipment running smoothly.

Agricultural equipment is a serious investment, meant to support planting and harvesting for decades. Whether it’s in a dealer’s shop or in a farmer’s field, agriculture equipment technicians call on a wide range of skills and knowledge to help farmers get back to work.

Agricultural Technology Careers

Agricultural equipment technicians enjoy a variety of job responsibilities, including:

  • maintenance and repair
  • diagnostic testing
  • parts replacement
  • safety compliance
  • record-keeping
  • customer service

High-Tech Field

Agricultural equipment relies on the latest technology to help farmers get the most out of their machines and time. As more electronic components are added to today’s farm equipment, an agriculture equipment technician’s responsibilities become more complex.

In addition to knowledge of engine and powertrain mechanics, technicians need to know about computer technology, electronically controlled hydraulic systems, global positioning systems (GPS) and more.

Gain knowledge and skills through hands-on learning to diagnose, overhaul, maintain, adjust and repair engines found in agricultural machines and equipment.

As an agricultural equipment technician, you’ll work on many types of farm equipment and perform a variety of tasks.

You might use a laptop to diagnose an issue with a new combine one day and then begin rebuilding an engine on a classic tractor the next. You may spend some days in a shop and others out in the field with farmers.

In short, no two days are alike, which keeps the work exciting, challenging and full of opportunities to build your skills and grow your career.
