Medical Assistant

Overview

The Medical Assistant program at Madison College is designed to orient students to the duties of a physician's office employee, from general office procedures to elementary medical laboratory techniques  and assisting in the examining room. Occupational experience is provided through placement in a local office/clinic during the last four weeks of the final semester.

If you have a genuine interest in medicine and in helping people, this could be a great fit for you. 

Please note that after acceptance to this program, you will be required to complete a background check and provide documentation of current required-immunizations and current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. Further information about these requirements will be provided at program orientation.

Medical Assistant students can attend full or part time.

Classes are offered Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

After Acceptance

Students admitted onto the waitlist for the Spring 2017 term or prior should continue to use their Academic Requirements Report and review emails from their academic advisor.

Students admitted into a pre-petition status for the Fall 2017 term or after should complete the Medical Assistant Petition Requirements.

Outcomes

After completing the Medical Assistant program at Madison Area Technical College, you will be able to:

  • Perform medical office administrative functions
  • Provide patient care in accordance with regulations, policies, laws and patient rights
  • Perform medical laboratory procedures
  • Demonstrate professionalism in a healthcare setting
  • Demonstrate safety and emergency practices in a healthcare setting

Graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification examination immediately after graduation. 

In accordance with the policies of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB), Madison College submits data to measure outcomes for our program. Data is reported annually and displayed using a five year weighted average. Listed below are five year weighted averages for three of our program outcomes submitted as part of the 2016 MAERB Annual Report Form. Access to the full report is available upon request.
