Chat with Tony Award winner Karen Olivo
Madison College Performing Arts is sponsoring a free virtual chat with local theater artist and Broadway star Karen Olivo at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Olivo will share her training, experience and perspective of how the pandemic has impacted her career and live theater. After addressing prepared questions from Madison College theater students, there will be a moderated Q&A session with the audience.
In 2009, Olivo received the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance as Anita in the revival of West Side Story. From 2016-17, Olivo played Angelica Schuyler in the Chicago production of Hamilton. In 2019, she originated the role of Satine in the stage adaptation of Moulin Rouge on Broadway, earning a nomination for the 2020 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
The stage in not the only venue Olivo has found success. She has had a recurring role in "The Good Wife" on CBS, playing the wealthy law student Fiada Cabrini. Olivo was a series regular in the second season of NBC’s "Harry’s Law" and has had multiple appearances on "All My Children," "Law & Order," and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Her film credits include "Make Yourself at Home," "The New Twenty," "Shanghai Hotel," and "The Orphan Killer."
