Madison College Board Trustee Joe Maldonado Steps Down

On April 11, Madison College Board Trustee Joe Maldonado informed fellow board members and Madison College President Jack Daniels of his resignation.

Maldonado was appointed to the Madison College board in July 2023 and is also a City of Fitchburg council member.

In the April 2 election, fellow trustee and board chair Donald D. Dantzler, Jr. was elected to the Fitchburg council. According to Wisconsin state law, two Madison College trustees cannot hold elected positions on the same governmental body, such as the Fitchburg City Council. Maldonado’s resignation letter referenced Dantzler’s important role in leading the college’s current presidential search as part of his decision to step down.

“I want to thank President Daniels, my fellow trustees, the District Board Nomination Committee, and the hard-working staff and students of Madison Area Technical College for giving me this pleasurable, educational opportunity to serve,” Maldonado said. “It has made me a better public official and person.”

Madison College President Dr. Jack Daniels says Maldonado’s active role in board discussions, college presentations, and participation in national conferences positioned the college to better serve students and the community.

“I thank Joe for his service and appreciate his strong commitment to the board, the college, and our students,” Daniels said.

Madison College Board of Trustees expects to fill the vacant seat this summer, for the remaining two years of Maldonado’s three-year term.

The Madison College District Board of Trustees nine members include two employers, two employees, three members-at-large, an elected official and a school district administrator.
