A new memorial scholarship fund at Madison College will assist domestic abuse survivors.
The scholarship was established in memory of Ismael Sanchez, a well-known advocate for those who had experienced domestic violence or sexual assault in the Madison area.
Dane Co. Sheriff Kalvin Barrett, retired sheriff Dave Mahoney and representatives from several community organizations - including DAIS and the Rape Crisis Center - were on hand for the launch of the new scholarship, which is believed to be one of the few of its kind in the country.
