Two-time champ
Please tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Kaden Crockett. This is my second semester at Madison College in the Liberal Arts Transfer program, and I’m a Super Smash Bros. player for the Madison College WolfPack Esports team.
For people who don’t know, what are esports?
Esports are essentially electronic sports with people playing video games to compete against others.
How did you first become interested in playing esports competitively?
My friends and I were always into video games as kids, especially Super Smash Bros. We’d constantly be racing to find new ways to be better than each other. We wanted to break into the next skill level and eventually discovered the existence of professional events and esports teams. I’ve been hooked ever since.
What is your biggest accomplishment as a member of the Madison College Esports team?
Currently, my biggest accomplishment is winning the NJCAAE championship last season and again this season. The Esports program didn’t appeal to me initially, but my friend, Baxter, convinced me to join it with him. Throughout last season, we both got more invested in the circuit, and we ended up playing in the semifinal round. Unfortunately, only one of us could make it to the finals, and I’m glad I could carry the torch from there and win a title for the team.
What advice do you have for future students who are interested in the WolfPack Esports team?
Don’t be afraid to join and check it out! We’d love to have you, but if it’s not for you, we aren’t going to make you stay. It’s a great way to meet new people with similar interests.
What are you most proud of during your time at Madison College?
I’m most proud of the developments in the Esports team that I’ve contributed towards. It’s awesome to see the program grow and thrive during this tough time, and it feels good to help out.
