One of the most valuable services I’ve used at Madison College has been the WorkSmart Program. From the moment I began my journey here, the staff have provided me with various kinds of support. They help with everything from signing up for classes to navigating financial aid. They consistently check in on your progress and grades, ensuring that you’re staying on track. Having that level of personal guidance made a significant difference in my academic success.
In addition to the WorkSmart program, the availability of family-friendly study spaces has been a great resource. As a student parent, it can be difficult to find a quiet place to focus. Madison College’s study spaces offer a quiet, comfortable environment where students can dedicate time to coursework while their children are entertained and occupied. That can definitely make juggling family life and school a bit easier.
Another highlight for me was Student Parent Appreciation Month, with events like visits to children’s museums, appreciation cookouts, and even a soccer game with face painting and a balloon artist. My kids loved these experiences, and I appreciated the sense of community they created for us.
I would encourage other students, especially parents, to explore the resources available to them. Whether it’s guidance from WorkSmart, utilizing a study space, or being part of the community that supports student parents, Madison College offers a wealth of support to help students, and their families thrive.

Out of all of the student resources available at Madison College, two have been exceptionally valuable to me. As a low-income student on government benefits, it's stressful going to school and working, so having the aid of student counseling services and the food pantry greatly impacts my life.
Beginning with the counseling services, my mental health counselor helps me navigate the difficulties of life. It took a burden off my chest as I was able to open up to a trusted figure at the school who I'm confident would support me whatever it may be.
I always recommend the student mental health services to my friends. I would encourage more funding to be put toward this department so that staff can be hired to care for the student population.
Going into the food pantry, Peer Health Educators (PHE) has been extremely kind to me from the beginning of my journey here at Madison College. After meeting Cupboard Student Food Pantry Coordinator Denise Holin, she immediately helped me obtain a food locker. I was then linked with a student who helped me get food to eat every week. They made sure the food I got complied with my food intolerances, which made me feel like a valued, important person at the college. At the beginning of last summer, I joined PHE and now run all of the food lockers. I hear stories from many students on how much the pantry helps them, as food insecurity is a prevalent issue with many nowadays. I'm eagerly awaiting our food pantry expansion as it will allow us to help more students and families at Madison College.

The WolfPack Closet was a lifeline for me during a particularly challenging time. I had just faced a major setback and lost everything I had. As I began my job search, I found myself looking through my clothes with nothing but T-shirts and jeans—definitely not the professional attire I needed to make a strong impression.
The WolfPack Closet came to my rescue, offering a diverse selection of interview-ready outfits that helped me present my best self, whether in person or on a virtual platform. After leaving the Wolfpack Closet that day, I felt my confidence grow, and I knew I was putting my best foot forward.
The value of the WolfPack Closet extends far beyond just providing clothing. In addition to the practical support, it’s a reminder that we are not alone in our journeys. Many students share similar experiences and struggles, and the WolfPack Closet helps to break down those barriers, creating connections and building community. By accessing this resource, you're not only investing in your future but also supporting a culture of inclusivity and resilience.
If you’re on the fence about using the WolfPack Closet, I encourage you to take the plunge. Don’t hesitate to reach out, whether you need a complete outfit or just a few accessories to polish your look. The staff is incredibly welcoming and ready to help you find something that suits your style and needs. Remember, it’s not just about the clothes; it’s about the confidence that comes with them. You deserve to feel empowered as you step into those interviews!
