Finding success in CNA certification classes

Getting a head start on your health care career while earning dual credit? Now that's a win-win.

This past December, these Sun Prairie high school students (photo credit: Jeromey Hodsdon/Sun Prairie Star) earned their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) technical diplomas, completing all necessary coursework, labs and clinicals over a semester.

Madison College has partnerships with several Madison area school districts to offer the CNA program, allowing students an opportunity to earn dual credit at their high school and the college. Nursing Assistant Instructor Beth Dunlap, who made the trek to Sun Prairie every week and is known for creating a fun and engaging learning environment, helps make it all happen.

Dunlap recently spoke with the Sun Prairie Star about the rigor and value of the program and the important skills students gain. She emphasizes the importance of performing the skills 'correctly, safely and with passion.' When speaking of these ten graduates, she says she would 'trust any one of them' to care for her or her family if needed.
