On Tuesday, June 28, Local 311 Union representatives awarded a gift of $5,000 to the Madison College School of Human and Protective Services. These funds will be distributed to students who recently completed the NextGen first responder training while in high school and plan to start college-level fire protection or EMS training this fall.

Additionally, a representative from Garner Memorial Scholarship, named for City of Madison first responder Richard Garner, Jr. who died in the line of duty in 2018, presented an award of $2,500.

The check presentation took place at the Madison College-Truax Campus, Protective Services Building. The event was attended by Local 311 representative Kevin McDonald, Union President Mahlon Mitchell, President Daniels, Dean Jessica Cioci and NextGen faculty and students.

The NextGen program provides high school students with entry-level professional training in emergency services.
